South of Golden Bay is Kahurangi National Park, New Zealand’s second-largest national park. It protects landscapes from coastal forest to alpine meadows and contains hikingtrails, including the Heaphy Track.
Walking the 78-kilometre trail to the West Coast takes four to six days. A trial is being held to determine whether it should be accessible to mountain bikers on a seasonal basis.
